Bachelor Of Fine Arts
The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) is an undergraduate degree for students who are seeking a professional education in the visual, literary, musical, or performing arts. It may also be called a Bachelor of Creative Arts degree. What distinguishes the Bachelor of Fine Arts from a traditional Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree is the studio or hands-on artistic component within the major -- as compared to typical BA lecture or classroom discussion structure.
The Bachelor of Fine Arts student still receives a rounded education in the liberal arts that is devoted to traditional BA majors, but the focus of curriculum is on the student's major art specialized field.
Specializations in a Bachelor of Fine Arts program may include stage and screen acting, dance and musical theatre, jewelry and ceramics, creative writing (fiction, poetry, essays and screenwriting), painting, illustration and drawing, photography and photojournalism, fiber or metal work, film or television production, interior or graphic design, new media (web design or animation), bookbinding or printmaking, and sculpture.
Putting the Fine Arts to Work According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, approximately 63 percent of professional artists are self employed, but many perform day-to-day jobs as employees, contractors, and consultants.
Painting and drawing Bachelor of Fine Arts grads find work with film and video production and animation studios, with advertising companies, in new media, with public relations and marketing companies, in publishing, medical illustrating, and teaching. Musicians and writers often work for the entertainment or video gaming industry, as artistic live performers with publishing companies and the media. |
