How To Become A Radio Broadcaster
A radio broadcast can include programs on national and local news, talk shows, music programs, and advertisements. The primary duty of a radio broadcaster is to be the voice of these programs. However, radio broadcasters perform a variety of tasks both on and off the air. Radio broadcasters must read prepared scripts or ad-lib commentary as they present news, sports, weather, time or commercials. If a written script is required, radio broadcasters may also spend time doing research for and writing the script. Radio broadcasters interview guests and moderate discussion. They provide commentary for coverage of sporting events, parades, or other events. Most radio broadcasters specialize in areas such as news, sports, weather, politics, religion, business or health.
Becoming a radio broadcaster requires a lot of training, and entry into this profession can be highly competitive. Formal training in radio broadcasting from a college or technical school is recommended. Most radio broadcasters have a degree in such areas as communications, broadcasting or journalism. Training in radio broadcasting is designed to give you an extensive working knowledge of the radio broadcast and production process. It will teach you about many of the aspects of radio broadcasting through an intensive, hands-on program where you will learn and practice radio broadcasting and production in fully equipped studios. Through your training, you will use the latest broadcast equipment; learn extensive audio techniques for radio; and learn to create, direct, and produce commercials and shows. You may also receive training in news writing and reporting, script writing, and talent training.
With training in radio broadcasting, you will become a qualified radio broadcaster and will be able to pursue professional positions such as an on-air radio personality, news reporter, voice-overs, audio production worker, on-air disc jockey, copy writer, actor, producer, director and more. |
