How To Become A Landscape Architect
Do you enjoy working outside? Have a green thumb? Like problem solving? Have a creative eye? Want a job with high demand. Maybe you should become a landscape architect? It's a career that satisfies all of the above and provides you with so much more.
What exactly is a landscape architect? As a landscape architect, you'll basically sculpt gardens, lawns, and surrounding areas to improve both their beauty and functionality. In addition, you'll help plan the location of roads, buildings, and parks. A landscape architect is kind of a cross between a professional gardener and urban planner.
You need at least a bachelor's degree to get started. It's not hard to see why when you consider that to become a landscape architect:
You need to have a solid foundation in horticulture, landscaping, and gardening.
You must understand irrigation and water run-off techniques—especially in urban settings.
You must learn how to survey land effectively. You cannot simply eyeball an area. Each measurement must be meticulously completed.
Your work must be environmentally responsible.
Your landscaping must comply with any federal and state regulations (which can be quite numerous at times).
These are the types of things you'll learn when you attend school. And this is only the tip of the iceberg. The degree usually takes 4 or 5 years to complete. |
