Interior Design Schools

Interior design schools are charged with the task of teaching students how to beautify their surroundings, maximize space, and create more harmonious living or working environments. As commercial and residential real estate becomes more expensive (and more cramped), the role and scope of interior designers will likely increase.

Curriculum at Interior Design Schools
Students at interior design schools will be expected to study subjects like drawing, computer-aided design (CAD), spatial planning, perspective, furniture design, architecture, color and fabrics, ergonomics, ethics, electrical wiring, fixtures, architecture, engineering, and psychology. After successfully completing interior design school, many students typically take on apprenticeships lasting anywhere from one to three years. In some states, this is a requirement, while in others, it is simply recommended. One reason for this added level of education is because interior designers must pass a licensing exam before they can begin practicing professionally. In many cases, they'll make substantial changes to a building structure, and thus, they must possess the requisite technical and mathematical skills to make any alterations safe and secure.
