Fashion Stylist Schools

Stylist programs at fashion schools help prepare students for work in the exciting fashion field. Fashion stylists combine a deep knowledge of fashion trends, winning looks, the appropriate settings for photography shoots and apparel displays, and a love for flair. Fashion stylist programs at trade and design schools often include practical training in merchandising, textiles, accessories, and color theory. Stylists learn how to dress people in apparel that flatters their body type.

Once they graduate from school, fashion stylists traditionally seek employment with fashion chains, boutiques, advertising and PR agencies, merchandisers, television, magazines, internet-based fashion sites, trade show hosting companies, hotels, and convention centers. Duties vary by client and employer, but a fashion stylist may be called upon to help scout locations for fashion shoots, coordinate models and props, work with photographers, assist the sound technicians, and help lighting experts.

Successful fashion stylists must combine their knowledge of fashion trends and apparel history with creativity, a strong networking aptitude, and solid interpersonal communication skills.

Fashion Stylist School Programs for Working Professionals
Fashion stylist students come from all walks of life. Many have experience in marketing or direct sales, some in retailing, and others in clothing design and manufacturing. Fashion schools offer full and part-time certificate and degree programs that can prepare stylists for the field in as little as 24 months.

Schools often ask fashion students to take internships with ad agencies, fashion marketing companies, retailers, and trade organizations to gain invaluable on-the-job experience as well as build relationships in the profession.
